GENOMIC SCREENING
ASSESSING GENETIC RISK of DISEASE
True prevention requires early assessment and intervention before disease arises.
Reliance on family history and traditional risk factors often results in failure to identify at-risk patients. For example, half of the one million Americans that die of vascular disease each year have none of the traditional risk factors such as:
– High cholesterol
– High blood pressure
– High triglycerides, etc.
Genomic screening is a new way to evaluate disease risk by analyzing genes associated with disease.
Evaluation of an individuals’ genetic predisposition to disease greatly increases identification of at-risk patients. This new approach complements traditional diagnostic methods with an individual’s inherited genetic predisposition.
True Prevention requires assessment of an individual's genetic predisposition.
